چکیده

The Project Authorization Request (PAR) for the IEEE P1900.4 Working Group (WG), under the IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 41 (SCC41) was approved in December 2006, leading to this WG being officially launched in February 2007 [1]. The scope of this standard is to devise a functional architecture comprising building blocks to enable coordinated network-device distributed decision making, with the goal of aiding the optimization of radio resource usage, including spectrum access control, in heterogeneous wireless access networks. This paper introduces the activities and work under progress in IEEE P1900.4, including its scope and purpose in Sects. 1 and 2, the reference usage scenarios where the standard would be applicable in Sect. 4, and its current system architecture in Sect. 5. key words: IEEE standardization, cognitive radio, network architecture, reconfiguration, heterogeneous radio access networks, distributed radio resource management

A 10-Year Mechatronics Curriculum Development Initiative: Relevance, Content, and Results - Part I

This paper describes the first phase of a Mechatronics Curriculum Development effort—the design of an “Introduction to Mechatronics” course, the infusion of mechatronics activities throughout the curriculum and in outreach activities, and assessment results. In addition, the relevance and impact of such a curriculum on the education of engineers in relation to the evolving global economy is dis...

Guest Editors' Introduction: Energy Harvesting and Conservation

P ervasive computing aims to integrate computation into our daily work practice to enhance our activities without being noticed. In other words, computing becomes truly invisible. Yet at the heart of every pervasive computing system are electronic components that consume energy. Managing the energy needs of mobile systems, or systems for which reliable power isn’t guaranteed, can be a significa...

Service Differentiation of IEEE 802.11e

The type of the applications for which Internet is being used has changed over the years. Multimedia applications, Real-time applications and Game playing require Quality of service. IEEE has proposed IEEE 802.11e, a quality of service extension to the wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11. In this paper service differentiation ability of 802.11e is evaluated. Identical traffic is considered for al...
